Oct 19    Lunch & Learn: MI Bright Future
Topic: MI Bright Future

Laura Hoehn will present information on MI Bright Futures.  This wonderful initiative allows area employers to get involved to let students know what kind of jobs are available in our local area, as well as provide mentoring, answer student questions, guide students on what education is necessary and available for these careers, etc.

Click here for more information: http://mibrightfuture.org/

MiBrightFuture is real-world career development, providing direct links between students and employers: powered by technology, advanced through partnership. Proactive companies can use MI Bright Future to connect with tomorrow’s brightest talent. Through an easy-to-use online interface, students and teachers can reach companies on a platform they are already using for career development to make them aware not only of careers and industries, but also of many types of activities that can influence their future path, including company tours, job shadows and internships.
The Livingston Career and College Access Network (LCCAN) has been a leader in the implementation of this online, interactive tool, connecting students with employers through message boards and work based learning experiences. As a result, teachers, students and employers have built relationships that have resulted in online discussions, job shadowing, internships, and summer part-time employment. These connections will open the lines of communication between K-12 and employers, in the hope of providing contextualized education for students and keeping local talent local.
Come to learn more about how to get involved with this innovative system! For a sneak peek, check it out ahead of time at www.mibrightfuture.org.

Oct 20    Chamber Month Open House
Chamber of Commerce Month in Michigan recognizes chambers for the roles they play in their local communities, their work as advocates for business, and their dedication to the improvement of their communities.

The Howell chamber has four lines of business: advocacy, community improvement, member services and economic development. Formed in 1949, the chamber has grown from a small, strictly volunteer organization to a membership base of approximately 700, with a staff of seven.

“Since 1949, the Howell chamber has led Livingston County on business, economic and quality of life issues,” Convery said. “Today, our members and the community continue to support the chamber in its efforts to represent business interests throughout the area.”

Three lucky chamber members attending the annual Chamber of Commerce open house at the Howell chamber will win a featured spot on the cover of the chamber’s annual membership guide. In addition, they will be featured on the inside of the guide.

The event will also introduce the new Chamber Cash gift certificate program to the membership.
